1. Schema Markups

Creating these rich cards (form of structured data) is Google way to take advantage of the rise in mobile usages. They are easy on the eyes and will become even more important when it comes to search ranking as time goes on. 

The schema.org vocabulary includes formats for structuring data around all kinds of people, places and things on the web. These markups can be implemented using different languages of code – including RDFa, Microdata and JSON-LD.

What are RDFa, Microdata, and JSON-LD? These are all languages of code that can be added to HTML to embed metadata (schema, for example) on a web document. RDFa stands for Resource Descriptive Framework in Attributes. It is a form of code that can be added to any HTML, XHTML, and XML-based document (like rel, rev, about, content, href, etc.). Microdata implementation is similar to RDFa (its attributes include these attributes itemscope, itemtype, etc.). JSON-LD stands for Javascript Object Notation for Linked Objects. This style of annotation can implement schema by pasting directly in theortag of a web document. The notation uses “@context” and “@type” attributes to specify the vocabulary (schema.org).

The whole point of structuring your data is to communicate better with search engines like Google. When Google understands entities on a deeper level, it serves better results to searchers. Items like rich cardsrich snippets and the knowledge graph appear on SERPs after gathering information from structured data.

Google has stated that properly structured data can enhance your appearance in their search results.

For example, with structured reviews, Google can show recipes with the most five star ratings at the top of their results. Or, with structured data on songs and albums, Google can show what songs an artist sings as a series of rich cards.

2. Disavow Negative Backlinks

More backlinks do not always mean higher rankings, and you should reject certain types of backlinks. As you know, Google focuses on the authority of the website linking to your domain. What you might not know is that spammy sites linking to you can negatively impact your ranking. Even if you have absolutely nothing to do with them – for example if less credible websites are starting to link or comment on your website or if you aer using paid links to increase faster your ranking (blackhat SEO).

Google does monitor where your backlinks are coming from, and a lot of bad websites linking back to you raises red flags, so your website can be even banned by Google. Focusing on building quality links and content is a must for SEOs.

Skyscraper content involves finding high performing content in your niche and creating something better, and then shamelessly promoting it.

Skyscraper content takes a lot of work to do right, and you might use many efforts and spend lots of time until you done, but it does worth it.

The technique is based on finding Google search for keywords related to your niche and your competitors. When you have an idea of who your competitors are, your next task is to find content that has done well for them. 

How to create a better content? 

  • Add more details and go deep into the topic.
  • Get insights from influencers – Getting experts opinion on a topic can add more value to a post than mere word count.
  • Perform your experiment, or link to credible research from respected source to give your content more credibility – make your audience more active .
  • Add video content or even infographics that are easier to understand and still provide a comprehensive take on the topic.

4. Optimize Your Landing Pages

One key factor Google uses to gauge the quality of a post is its bounce rate. How quickly people leave your website after clicking on it in the search results.

If people search Google and click on your website on the search results page, then discover it’s not relevant to them and quickly go back.

Google takes notice, and if this happens a lot more, Google will drop your ranking for that search term.

5. Use Entity Salience

This is an advanced SEO technique. Entity salience is a relatively new concept brought about by search engines to improve the accuracy of search results by leveraging the known relationships between entities.

Entity salience steps beyond the boundaries of keywords. It is similar to co-occurrence, but instead of repeating keywords over and over again, or even variations of those keywords. It takes advantage of repeating themes for those keywords.

In short, entity salience looks beyond keywords on a page and instead focuses on the relationship between objects or entities.
